Privacy Policy

BreakCheck (“we,” “us”) operates breakcheck.app. BreakCheck is a GitHub App that posts a Check for OpenAPI breaking changes, optionally sends Slack alerts, and includes a Clerk-authenticated dashboard.

This notice describes what we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.

Information we collect

  • GitHub App. Installation and repository metadata (installation ID, account or org login, selected repo names, and the webhook event payloads needed to run Checks). We read OpenAPI schema files from selected repositories and keep snapshots as needed to produce the Check.
  • Account. If you sign in, Clerk processes account data (email, name, and authentication identifiers). We keep a corresponding user or org record for the dashboard.
  • Slack. If you connect Slack (Team and Scale), we store the incoming webhook URL you provide so we can post fail alerts.
  • Billing. Plan and usage metadata. Payment instruments are handled by Stripe; we store Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, not full card numbers.
  • Technical logs. Standard host logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) used for security and reliability.

How we use it

We use this information to run Checks, show the dashboard, send Slack fail alerts you configure, process billing, authenticate you, associate GitHub installations with your account, communicate about availability and support, and to secure, debug, and improve the service. We may also use it to comply with law.

We do not sell personal information.

Sharing

We share data with processors that help us run BreakCheck:

  • GitHub — App install, webhooks, and Checks
  • Clerk — authentication
  • Stripe — payments and the customer portal
  • Slack — if you connect a webhook, we send Check-fail summaries to the URL you provide
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — application host and database

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service and its users.

Retention

Check history and schema snapshots follow your plan (for example 14-day history on Team, 90-day on Scale) or last until you uninstall or cancel. Account, installation, Slack webhook, and billing records stay for as long as the account is active, then we delete or anonymize them within a reasonable period unless law or accounting requires a longer hold.

Security

We use HTTPS, restrict access to production systems, and rely on our processors’ security controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children

BreakCheck is for software teams. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the applicable age).

Your choices

Uninstall the GitHub App to stop new event processing. Disconnect Slack to stop alerts. Email us to request access, correction, or deletion of account data. We will honor applicable rights under US state privacy laws (including Connecticut) and, where relevant, GDPR / UK GDPR for EU and UK users.

International

We are based in the United States. If you use BreakCheck from elsewhere, your information is processed in the US and in the regions our processors operate.

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change; material changes will be posted on this page.
